This jealousy and anger increased when Bilbo adopted his second-cousin-once-removed Frodo (a Brandybuck on his mother's side) as his heir presumptive. When Bilbo's father and mother died in TA 2926 and TA 2934 respectively, Bilbo became his own master and spent the next seven years living alone in Bag End. During this time, Bilbo grew fond of his life as a wealthy bachelor and acquired a reputation for respectability that the neighbors admired. Gandalf suggested to Thorin and Company that they hire Bilbo Baggins to be their burglar in the Quest of Erebor, and later fought in the Battle of Five Armies. Bilbo was also one of the bearers of the One Ring, and the first to voluntarily give it up, although with some difficulty.

After venturing out with Thorin and company, he encountered a trio of trolls who very nearly put an end to the quest before Gandalf came to the rescue. With the trolls turned to stone, Bilbo and the dwarves were able to raid their nearby cave. It was here that Bilbo discovered what would have been a dagger to a full-grown man, but to him was a full-sized sword. He dubbed it Sting, and it would become a faithful companion to the Baggins family for many years to come. In the classic fantasy novel The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, BilboBaggins (the hobbit) accompanies a band of 13 dwarves to the Lonely Mountain, their ancestral homeland, to recover their kingdom and its treasure from Smaugthe dragon. Gandalf the wizard is responsible for bringing Bilbo and thedwarves together.

He isscared at first, but when he is captured by the trolls he tells them that he isa burglar, then changes him mind and tells them that he is a hobbit. He sees something special in Bilbo that he believes will makeBilbo a valuable companion on the quest to recover the treasure. Gandalf knowsthat Bilbo longs for adventure, even though during their initial conversation,Bilbo isn't even aware of it himself. R. R. Tolkien's 1937 novel The Hobbit, a supporting character in The Lord of the Rings, and the fictional narrator (along with Frodo Baggins) of many of Tolkien's Middle-earth writings. The Hobbit is selected by the wizard Gandalf to help Thorin and his party of Dwarves to reclaim their ancestral home and treasure, which has been seized by the dragon Smaug.
A deer came out of nowhere when all the Dwarves were on the other side. The Dwarves hoped for venison for dinner, when Bilbo realized that Bombur was drowning. The Dwarves fished him out to find he had been put to sleep by the stream's magic, but the boat was knocked away, ending the hope for venison. In Hobbiton, Bungo Baggins constructed a spacious and luxurious Hobbit-hole for Belladonna, which they named Bag End.
Bilbo initially expresses no interest in going on any kind of adventurewhatsoever, and attempts to usher Gandalf away, at least in regards to thatsubject. Bilbo's way of life in the Shire, defined by features like the availability of tobacco and a postal service, recalls that of the English middle class during the Victorian to Edwardian eras. Tolkien appears to have based Bilbo on the designer William Morris's travels in Iceland; Morris liked his home comforts, but grew through his adventurous journeying. Bilbo's quest has been interpreted as a pilgrimage of grace, in which he grows in wisdom and virtue, and as a psychological journey towards wholeness. After Thorin's funeral, the new king Dáin II offered him his one-fourteenth share of the treasure, but Bilbo declined, receiving only two small chests, one with gold, and the other laden with silver. Bilbo traveled back with the wood-elf host that participated in the Battle of Five Armies.

The floors in the house are terra cotta tile and oak parquet, with woven rugs made from cotton rags or wool. The Baggins kitchen could be seen as a forerunner of a great room, with a fireplace, dining area, cabinetry and a cushioned bench.
Character Analysis
Bilbo declined to hear anything more about Gandalf's proposal, but the wizard didn't let up. "Then the prophecies of the old songs have turned out to be true, after a fashion!" said Bilbo. Somehow the killing of the giant spider, all alone by himself in the dark without the help of the wizard or the dwarves or of anyone else, made a great difference to Mr. Baggins.

After his departure, Bilbo wandered to Rivendell and then, after a rest, accompanied some Dwarves to Dale and the Lonely Mountain, before returning to Rivendell. Horrified by Bilbo's outburst, Gandalf stood to his full height and ordered Bilbo to leave it behind. Immediately Bilbo returned to his senses, apologizing and admitting that the Ring had been troubling him lately. After a moment of inner struggle, Bilbo finally dropped the ring to the ground, becoming the first Ring-bearer to give up the ring of his own will. Bilbo and Gandalf bade each other goodbye, and Bilbo left the Shire for his journey.
The family moved to their new home, where Bilbo would spend much of his life. To make sure his version of Bilbo’s house lives on, director Peter Jackson actually built a regular-sized one for himself in the basement of his New Zealand mansion based on the digitally engineered interiors of the set. In fact, you can’t even get a tour of Bilbo’s house, only peek through the windows. That’s because all of the hobbit homes in Hobbiton were designed for exterior filming only. The KJ, Cole, is really great and takes good care of keeping it happening.Bartenders and staff are really good at keeping things together. Good to know if you're short on time, catch a snack when you get there.
He thought of the jewels of the dwarves shining in dark caverns.Suddenly in the wood beyond The Water a flame leapt up – probably somebody lighting a wood-fire-and he thought of plundering dragons settling on his quiet Hill and kindling it all to flames. He shuddered; and very quickly he was plain Mr. Baggins of Bag-End, Under-Hill, again. Soon after Gandalf's visit, Bilbo found strange dwarves arriving on his doorstep in pairs, and by the time they'd all arrived there were 13 of them.
The company left Rivendell to pass through the Misty Mountains, where they tried to shelter in what they thought was a cave. They soon found that goblins were infesting the mountain, and while Bilbo managed to accidentally escape capture, Thorin and company were not so lucky. While the dwarves and Gandalf dealt with the goblins, Bilbo stumbled through the dark and happened to find a golden ring. Soon after, he encountered a strange creature known as Gollum, who threatened to eat him unless he could win a riddle contest. Bilbo flummoxed Gollum with his final riddle, "What have I got in my pocket," and as the creature grew more frustrated Bilbo put the ring on and vanished. Gollum, confused by Bilbo's absence, thought the Hobbit had found the way out and gave chase toward the cave exit.
Bilbo used it to try and sue for peace, but soon all three factions were interrupted by a goblin army. In the ensuing battle, known as the Battle of Five Armies because the Eagles also participated, Thorin was killed, putting an end to his quest to reclaim his kingdom. As they sang the hobbit felt the love of beautiful things made by hands and by cunning and by magic moving through him, a fierce and jealous love, the desire of the hearts of dwarves. Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walkingstick.
